The Uzes region has got a clay deposit of exeptional quality, made of 25 different kinds of clay. That explains why it has been from its beginning a privileged place for traditional pottery ( for example the tiles for le Palais des Papes in the 13th century ) and nowadays that of modern ceramics.
In the region you will find 2 museums, around 20 pottery workshops at St Quentin la Poterie (4 kms from Uzes), and one of the most beautiful ceramics art galleries, Terra Viva.

Uzes is located in the heart of a region rich in roman presence.The Pont du Gard aqueduc has its source in Uzes.

Within an hour drive you can discover :
Arles  :antique theatre, arenas, forum,Alyscamp, antique art museum.
Saint Remy de Provence : the Antiques, Glanum a gallo-roman city wonderfully preserved.
Nimes : Arenas, Maison Carree,Museum
Orange : Theatre, Triumph Arch
And Vaison la Romaine...

Uzes is one of the first to have benefited of  a status of preserved territory.

You can immerse yourself for 2 or 3 days in this wonderfully restored city; whether you follow the guided tours or discover by yourself : the cathedral, the Tour Fenestrelle, Duche and Tour du Roi, or de l`Eveque (King or Bishop Tower).Also the medieval garden, the Place aux Herbes, and different hotels particuliers or townhouses...

Uzes lies in a region where alternate `garrigues`(bushlike land) and cultivated plains.

Natural environment is preserved, and has 2 very beautiful valleys : the Eure valley at the feet of the city from which started the aqueduc of the Pont du Gard, that has been preserved for more than a century; and the Gardon valley that has stayed very wild with eagles, beavers and wasp nests .
At the heart of Uzes you can discover the specific botany of Jardin Médiéval...

Leaving Uzes, and still within an hour range, you will discover abbeys and churches amongst the most beautiful in romanesque architecture :
Senanque, Montmajour. St Trophime in Arles,Saint-Gilles, Saint-Guilhem...but also numerous little churches and chapels in villages and in the countryside..,Saint Jean d`Orgerolls, Saint Pierre de Vers, Saint Genies, Saint Michel de Masmolene, Saint Jean Baptiste de Venejean...
